Frequently Asked Questions:
Please read all of this information to ensure you will have a smooth recital day experience.
It is your responsibility to understand and know the following:
- Students must be approved by their teacher in order to participate. Your teacher makes the final decision.
- The date and time of your performance
- The location and parking for the performance hall. Please allow yourself plenty of time for parking and reaching the hall in time. If you are unsure, please try to map out your plan for recital day the week before.
- Accompaniment is NOT required and will not be provided by the Academy. Please make arrangements with your teacher if needed.
**Students must be enrolled in the Academy at the time of the recital and full tuition for the month of December remitted in order to participate**

WHERE IS IT?
Shepherd School of Music, Rice University
Paid parking is available at two lots between the Shepherd School of Music and the football stadium. The Alice Pratt Brown Lot is directly in front of Alice Pratt Brown Hall; West Lot 5 is between entrance 8 and the football stadium off of University Blvd.
The fees for the use of these lots are $1 for each 30 minutes, with a $11 daily maximum.
A credit card will be required to enter and exit the lots.

WHAT TIME DO I ARRIVE?
Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your performance time and allow ample time to park. If you perform at 2 p.m., arrive at 1:45 p.m., etc.
WHAT DO THE PERFORMERS WEAR?
“Sunday best” or “Business casual”
CAN WE TAKE PICTURES AND VIDEO?
Yes absolutely!
IS THERE AN ADMISSION CHARGE?
The recital is free, open to the public and everyone is welcome to attend.
HOW LONG DOES IT LAST?
Each performer will be part of a 50 minute set. Sets start on the hour (2-2:50, 3-3:50, etc) and students will be limited to a 2 minute piece. Once the 50 minute set is complete, please exit the concert hall promptly in order to allow the next group to enter. You are more than welcome to take pictures in the main hall or outside.
*As a courtesy to all of the performers, please watch the entire 50 minute program as we want every student to have the same amount of respect from the audience. *
WHAT DO WE BRING?
- Your sheet music if you use it.
- Guitarists and bassists, bring your guitars and basses. We will provide amps and cables for you.
- Vocalists and pianists only need to bring their music and or lyrics if needed.
