Yilin started taking piano lessons at the age of six. Before moving to the States in 2010, she participated in various competitions and performances in China where she received numerous prizes. Throughout high school, she served as a keyboardist in her high school’s orchestra and band and has participated in competitions such as the University Interscholastic League Texas State Solo-Ensemble piano solo contests where she received Outstanding Performer and first prize.
Yilin attended the University of Texas at Austin and graduated with Bachelor’s in music and Master’s in piano performance. During both degrees, she was involved extensively in accompanying activities and performances, where she collaborated with other musicians from vocalists to instrumentalists. Yilin also participated in the piano pedagogy curriculum where she taught students of various ages. There, she recognized the importance of body awareness which leads to healthy piano playing. She has since cultivated this awareness in lessons to help her students build a healthy foundation in piano playing. She has been teaching piano lessons for more than 5 years. During lessons, she encourages students to be creative and expressive. Yilin is excited to join the piano faculty at Vivaldi Music Academy, she aims to craft each lesson into a joyful yet effective learning experience for each student. She believes making music in an engaging and fun learning environment in lessons brings better learning progress and results in students. Outside of teaching, Yilin enjoys fitness and reading.
