Michael K is a dedicated and accomplished pianist and teacher currently residing in Houston, Texas. Originally from Estonia, Michael’s musical journey began at Tallinna Muusikakeskkool, where he studied piano, composition, and theory. He received his bachelor’s degree in piano performance from the University of Music Karlsruhe in Germany, where he studied under the esteemed Dr. Kalle Randalu. Michael moved to the United States after receiving a full scholarship to study at Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music with Brian Connelly. Throughout his studies, Michael performed with the Shepherd School Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra, and Contemporary Ensemble. Notably, he performed pieces by Ligeti, Chen Yi, and Kevin Puts, collaborating directly with the Pulitzer-winning composer. Michael has a passion for chamber music, with fond memories of performing Brahms and Schubert quintets at Rice. In addition to his performance achievements, Michael composed an interactive electronic piece for James Turrell’s Skyspace during his studies at Rice. During his extensive training, he had the privilege of studying with renowned musicians such as Prof. Robert Levin (Harvard University), Prof. Boris Berman (Yale University), Eugen Indjic, Prof. Santiago Rodriguez (University of Miami), Prof. William Wolfram (Manhattan School of Music), and many others. He is a laureate of numerous national and international competitions and has received many prestigious scholarships. At Vivaldi Music Academy, Michael teaches students of all ages, applying advanced piano techniques, musical knowledge, and pedagogical skills developed during his extensive training. His goal is to provide high-quality piano instruction that fosters musical growth and contributes to the musical education and enrichment of the local community. Michael is committed to helping his students achieve their artistic goals, whether they focus on classical, contemporary, or any other musical style, while always maintaining a dedicated approach to teaching and performing.
