A native of Cuba, Katia Garrido began her musical journey with the Holguin Symphony Orchestra in 2009. She served as Assistant Concertmaster from 2013 to 2022 before being appointed Concertmaster, a role she held from 2022 to 2024. In addition, Katia was a dedicated member of the Holguin Chamber Music Orchestra from 2008 to 2024.
Katia is a proud honor graduate of the Professional Conservatoire of Music, Jose María Ochoa in Holguin, Cuba, where she completed her studies in 2008. She also holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Artistic Education from the University of Holguin. Notably, she showcased her talent as a soloist in 2020, performing Johann Sebastian Bach’s Double Violin Concerto in D minor, BWV 1043, with the Holguin Chamber Orchestra.
Her professional collaborations include work with the National Symphony Orchestra of Cuba and the Santiago de Cuba Symphony Orchestra, among others. She has had the privilege of performing under the baton of esteemed conductors such as Maestro Enrique Pérez Mesa, Iván del Prado, Guido López Gavilán, and European maestros like Walter Themel (Italy), Gregorio Gutierrez (Spain), and Adrian Sylveen (Poland). Additionally, she has collaborated with renowned Cuban pianists, including Frank Fernández, Aldo López Gavilán, and Ramón Valle. Katia has also participated in numerous music festivals across Havana, Holguin, and Bayamo.
Katia is passionate about teaching music, viewing it as a powerful means of expression, creativity, and joy for individuals of all ages. Outside of her musical pursuits, she cherishes time spent with family and friends. She enjoys the beach, practicing yoga, and cooking, enriching her life with these joyful activities.
