Jay M is a native of Houston and began playing piano as a teenager. As a passionate pianist and composer, Jay studied at AFA (American Festival for the Arts) with Michael Remson, Mark Buller, and Aaron Alon through the Composer Institute Program. One of his compositions (“46 and 2”) premiered through Skyline Sessions at the University of Houston in conjunction with the Houston Grand Opera.
Dedicated to composing, Jay pursued his Bachelor’s at Stephen F. Austin State University with Andrew Parr and Chih-Long Hu from the University of Tennessee. In 2020, Jay graduated cum laude. As a performer, Jay enjoys performing Beethoven’s Triple Concerto, 24 Chopin Preludes, and Schuman’s Carnaval.
As a teacher, Jay is dedicated to enriching students’ lives by learning how to play and also compose music. Building on the fundamentals of piano to composition.
