Jawann is a highly skilled drummer, performer, and educator based in Sherman Oaks, CA. With expertise across a wide range of genres—from gospel and jazz to K-pop—Jawann combines exceptional coordination, technical mastery, and a deep understanding of complex rhythms in every performance.
Jawann’s musical journey began at Shoreline Community College, where he earned an Associate of Arts in Music (2015-2018), gaining a solid foundation in music theory and performance. He further honed his craft at the Musicians Institute, completing the Music Performance Program (2019-2021), where he deepened his knowledge of advanced performance techniques and explored diverse musical styles.
Specializing in limb independence, dynamic range, tempo control, and odd time signatures, Jawann’s versatility spans gospel, hip hop, rock, reggae, jazz, and experimental music. His extensive expertise covers both studio and live performance settings, including work with click tracks, multi-microphone setups, and collaboration with a variety of artists and producers.
Jawann’s career highlights include performing with renowned artists like Robert Glasper, Aloe Blacc, and Mali Music. He’s also contributed to high-profile projects, including the Apollo Theater Documentary and The Dave Chappelle Documentary, earning accolades such as an Emmy Award for the Apollo Documentary and recognition at the Tribeca Film Festival.
In addition to performing, Jawann is dedicated to teaching. As a drum instructor at Grayson’s Tune Town and through private lessons, he provides personalized instruction to students of all levels, fostering growth and creativity in every lesson.
