Cellist Jacob (Jake) Fowler holds degrees from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY and the Shepherd School of Music in Houston, TX. Jake is the Music Director of the Surf and Sounds Chamber Music Series, part of the Bryan Cultural Series on the Outer Banks of North Carolina, which will be celebrating it’s fifth year in August 2019. As a chamber musician, Jake has performed around the world as a guest artist at the Festival de Febrero in Ajijic, Mexico, the Crescent City Chamber Music Festival in New Orleans, Thy Masterclass festival in northern Denmark, and has performed many times with violinist Mark Peskanov at Barge Music in Brooklyn as part of their Masterworks series. Additional collaborations include performances with the Todd Rosenlieb Dance Company of the Suite for Solo Cello by Gaspar Cassadó, which was hailed as “the pièce de résistance. [Jake] sang sweetly…and the result was spectacular.” (M.D. Ridge, WHRO Norfolk). Jake most recently finished a collaboration with Houston’s Alley Theater, recording the soundtrack for their recent production “Constellations” and in March performed at the 2019 SXSW Festival as a solo cellist for the HBO and American Red Cross activation, Bleed for the Throne.
As an orchestral musician, Jake was the principal cellist of the Shen Yun Performing Arts Orchestra and Shen Yun Symphony Orchestra, performing with the dance company throughout North America, Europe, South Korea, and Taiwan, and was a tenured cellist of the Virginia Symphony Orchestra under Maestro Joann Falletta. Jake is also a principal cellist of the Manhattan Symphonie, and has performed on many political and cultural tours of China, performing in almost every major city in the country. Jake also has received fellowships from the Tanglewood Music Center and the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival, where he served as principal cellist under Christoph Eschenbach performing in Istanbul, Spain, Austria, and throughout Germany. Jake performs regularly with the San Antonio Symphony and the Houston Symphony, including their United Kingdom tour in 2010.
In addition to private studio lessons, Jake has been a cello faculty member of the Fei Tian College and Fei Tian Academy, Virginia Wesleyan College, and a regular coach of the Hampton Roads Chamber Players.
