Greg recently moved to Houston from Las Vegas, where he spent several years playing keyboards for church services, weddings, funerals, restaurants, and other events. Before the pandemic, he worked with Lucca Entertainment, arranging, directing, and producing a singing show that is now installed on several Holland America Line cruise ships. His diverse musical background includes previous work as a pianist, French horn player, music teacher, and audio engineer. Greg has performed with some big-name artists, including singer-songwriter Seal and guitarist Steve Vai. He has played with orchestras all over the west coast, including the Festival Napa Valley Orchestra, American Youth Symphony, Redlands Symphony, and Pacific Opera Project.

As a fan of many musical genres, Greg enjoys performing pop, rock, jazz, gospel/soul, and applying improvisation and contemporary techniques to his teaching. In the modern world, there is value in learning how to play top radio hits alongside Mozart and Beethoven. The skills required to read chord changes for pop and jazz music provide a great opportunity to learn the fundamentals of music theory in a way that is applicable to the songs we hear around us on a daily basis. Greg’s students learn to play by ear as well as read sheet music—both approaches are important in the development of a well-rounded musician.  

Greg is certified for Piano Book 1 by the Suzuki Association of the Americas. This does not mean he uses the Suzuki method with every student. Each student’s age, pre-existing skill level, and musical interests will determine lesson material – this is the advantage of private lessons. Greg holds a Master’s degree in music from the University of Southern California and a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Redlands. When not making music, he enjoys cooking, urban hiking, and being a coffee snob.
