Evelin Garay was born in Honduras and began her musical studies at the age of 12 at the National School of Music in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, under the guidance of renowned Honduran flutist Jessie Godoy. She continued her studies at the National Autonomous University of Honduras, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in music under the tutelage of Msc. Yvan Bertet. Evelin recently completed a master’s degree in music at Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, Tennessee, studying under Dr. Lisa Wolynec.
As a teacher, she has taught flute, piano, music theory, music history, and solfège to students of all ages at various institutions, including the Cane Music Conservatory (Honduras), the Preparatory Course of Music at the National Autonomous University of Honduras, Soli Deo Gloria School of Music (Honduras), and Austin Peay State University.
Evelin has been a member of several prominent music groups in Honduras, such as the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Honduras, the Tegucigalpa Symphony Orchestra, the Francisco Morazán Orchestra, the Symphony Pop Orchestra, the Vivaldi Chamber Orchestra, and the Bel Sono music group. She has also participated in various musical projects, including the 4th, 5th, and 6th Central American Flute Festivals, the YOA-Honduras Orchestra Camp, the Youth Orchestra and Choir of Central America (JOCCA), and The Interuniversity Festival of Culture and Arts. Evelin has received masterclasses from several internationally recognized flutists, including Tadeo Coelho (Brazil), Ulrich Biersack (Germany), Lucy Cartlidge (Scotland), Martha Councell-Vargas (USA), Marco Granados (Venezuela), and others.
Her teaching philosophy is: “The human side comes before making music.” She believes that to be good musicians and leaders, we must first be good people, starting with small details like kindness, fellowship, and respect for others.
