Ava Upshaw is a dynamic vocalist and performer with a lifelong passion for music. Growing up in a highly musical family, they discovered their love for singing at age six and have been immersed in music ever since. A 2022 graduate of the University of Texas at San Antonio with a Bachelor’s in Music, Vocal Performance, Ava’s academic focus was primarily in classical voice, but they have extensive experience performing across a variety of genres, including pop, rock, musical theatre, R&B, and gospel.
Ava’s performance journey began at age seven with summer theatre camps at the Magik Theatre, where they soon discovered their passion for the stage. They later attended the North East School of the Arts in San Antonio, performing in multiple productions each year. At UTSA, Ava continued their vocal studies in classical and opera, participating in Lyric Theatre productions such as The Pirates of Penzance, Captain Lovelock, and The Magic Flute, with standout roles including Pernille in Captain Lovelock and the Third Lady in The Magic Flute.
After graduation, Ava pursued further training with esteemed opera teacher Peter Mark and body alignment expert Karin Fantus. Their program, combining vocal and physical training, has transformed Ava’s voice into a powerful dramatic instrument.
Currently, Ava is auditioning for young artist programs and performing in a church choir. As a teacher, they are passionate about creating a supportive and encouraging environment where students can explore and develop their unique voices, just as they have done throughout their own musical journey.
