Alexas is a dedicated Indigenous pianist, violinist, and composer with a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Ithaca College. Her education has been enriched by studying with esteemed educators such as Dr. Dana Wilson, known for his innovative approaches, Dr. Jorge Villavicencio Grossmann, who blends contemporary and traditional styles, and Dr. Charis Dimaris, whose expertise in music theory has profoundly shaped her understanding. Additionally, her experiences at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam have broadened her musical horizons.
In her teaching, Alexas seamlessly blends classical and jazz training with the vibrant traditions of folk music from the Americas. This unique fusion informs her approach and enriches the learning experience for her students.
Her primary goal is to empower learners of all ages to discover and cultivate their own musical voices. Alexas places a strong emphasis on developing essential skills such as aural training, music theory, and an understanding of musical history. This foundation equips her students with the necessary tools to flourish as musicians.
Believing that exceptional musicians are always expanding their listening abilities, Alexas inspires her students to find inspiration in the world around them. She promotes student-led learning, encouraging her students to explore their musical interests and take ownership of their artistic journeys.
