Grand Opening in Bellaire

New Academy Opening offers Dramatic Encore to Success of Original Vivaldi Music Academy

A second state-of-the-art music instruction facility brings music to the ears of eager students and families.

Bellaire, TX, March1, 2016 – Building on a passion formed over 200 years of family music history, Zeljko Pavlovic announces the opening of his second music academy at 5305 Bissonnet Street in Bellaire, serving the musical needs of his ever-growing following in the Houston area. His first studio, Vivaldi Music Academy (VMA) in West University, opened summer of 2013 and offered a unique opportunity for students of all ages with its staff of internationally-acclaimed teaching artists, extensive course offerings, flexible class schedule, and performance opportunities.

With a two-year waiting list at Vivaldi’s West University location, Mr. Pavlovic saw a need for a second location to reach the eager community who has been enthralled by the Academy’s opportunities and successes, including being named the 2014 National Music School of the Year. Vivaldi Music Academy Bellaire features 3500 square feet of studio space including 11 exceptional lesson rooms and superior pianos. Since its opening on January 13, staff at the new location have enrolled 400 students, and the Academy boasts a total of forty faculty members, each with a professional pedigree and passion for teaching that create an exceptional musical experience for the student.

Mr. Pavlovic himself is a critically acclaimed violinist who credits his father as his greatest musical influence. He earned a Master’s degree in violin performance from the Royal Conservatory of Music in Liege, Belgium, won various music competitions internationally, and has performed at Carnegie Hall and alongside the Houston Symphony, among other venues. He was recently named to The Houston Business Journal’s “Forty Under Forty” list, and is thrilled to be sharing his passion and talents with an even larger segment of his local community.

Students at VMA, who take private or group lessons in an array of instruments including cello, flute, guitar, piano, viola, violin, as well as voice, are being heard across the country and throughout the world. Last June, students took their well-rehearsed talents on the road to perform a recital at world-renowned Carnegie Hall in New York City. The two-hour program featured forty of the Academy’s students and eight faculty. Headlining the show were three generations of Pavlovics: grandfather, Branko; father, Zeljko, the Academy’s director; and son, five-year-old Alexander.

On March 1, the Academy was featured on an episode of TLC’s The Little Couple, which was filmed at the new Bellaire Academy and featured the couple’s two young children receiving music instructions. On March 18, VMA students have been invited to perform the The Piano Guys at the Revention Music Center. These opportunities reflect not only the talent and passion of Academy students and staff, but also affirm Mr. Pavlovic’s reputation as a musical authority across many genres.

VMA students and faculty also have the opportunity for pairing their talents with their philanthropic spirit. On June 23, they will perform a recital at Santa Maria della Pieta in Venice, Italy, a church where the Academy’s namesake, Antonio Vivaldi, was both a teacher and patron. Pavlovic anticipates a sell-out crowd, with proceeds benefiting the church’s charity and orphanage, established in the 1300s.

Though the music has been playing for two months in Bellaire, the Academy’s grand opening ribbon-cutting and celebration, featuring the Bellaire Chamber of Commerce, will be held on Tuesday March 8th at 4:30 pm. Pavlovic expects to hit all the notes that day with face-painting, treats, goodie bags, demos and a drawing for prizes.

BACK TO SCHOOL TIPS FOR YOUR CHILD’S MUSIC EDUCATION

For parents and kids alike, the back to school season can be a stressful time. It’s a time for new responsibilities, new routines and new activities – and sometimes simply getting back into the swing of things takes some preparation! If music lessons are part of the mix this year, consider making family life a lot easier with a few preemptive actions.

– Lock down your schedule.

Most kids respond well to consistent schedules, so use a calendar to ensure everyone knows what activities are expected each day. This includes both lessons and practice times! Also, consider including a rewards system as part of the schedule; for example, when your son’s Tuesday piano lesson is over, encourage him to add a star to the calendar. If he practices for 30 minutes after the lesson, add another star. He’ll be able to see his progress and make the connection to consistent practicing and hard work.

– Set expectations for practicing.

For example, do you expect him to continue his lessons through the end of the school year? Will he need to set aside practice time on Saturday morning before playing outside? Be firm with your expectations, and make sure everyone is on the same page.

– Stay organized.

Come to music lessons with all the essentials! Everything your child needs for her music lessons (pencils, sheet music, practice journal, and of course, her instrument) should stay organized in one area. If your child is especially forgetful, consider creating a checklist and posting it on the door.

CuteKidAugust

– Befriend your child’s music teacher.

Starting music lessons for the first time – especially with a new, unfamiliar teacher – can be a scary experience for some children. Most teachers encourage parents to sit in on at least the first few lessons, which will help ease the anxiety, and also allows you to get a feel for their teaching style. Communication is key, for everyone involved!

– Don’t forget the practice journal.

A practice journal can be an incredibly valuable tool, when both student and teacher are using it effectively. Sit down with your child and review the journal each week; encourage her to share what she thinks she did well, what she should work on, and what the next step is. It may not be clear at first to her, but as she progresses and gets older, she’ll be comfortable with the process of setting and reaching goals.
And last, but certainly not least…

– Book lessons now!

Student of the Month

Rice University | Spring Recital

Joseph Gardemal, Violin

Q: What instrument do you study at Vivaldi Music Academy?
A: I’ve been studying violin with Courtney Park.

Q: What do you enjoy most about Vivaldi Music Academy?
A: I enjoy how encouraging and positive all of the Vivaldi staff has been since I began taking lessons. I didn’t have an opportunity to have music lessons when I was younger, and so everything I’ve been learning has been completely new to me, and it has been very helpful to meet encouraging people.

Q: Who are your favorite musical artists?
A: Lately I have been listening to Tomaso Antonio Vitali. But I am also a fan of movie scores, and James Horner is one of my favorite movie score composers.

Q: Do you have advice for other students who may be interested in music?
A: I would just say that its a very good thing to be interested in, because its something that brings people together. No matter what culture you come from, some kind of music is in your heritage.

Q: What do you have planned for your Carnegie performance?
A: I’m going to play “The Lovers’ Waltz” by Jay Ungar and Molly Mason. I think it would be considered to be American folk music, and Ms. Park is going to help me play it as a duet. I’m also part of the strings ensemble performance.

Summer Music Lessons

School’s out and summer is here – it’s the perfect time to sign up for our AWESOME summer lessons. There are many advantages to taking summer music lessons, and here are just a few:

Fun and Motivating – Summer is the perfect time to break from the school routine and explore their music interests with new repertoire, whether it be a song they heard on the radio or a challenging classical piece.
Greater Focus– Without the worries of homework, sports, and other school-time activities, the students can devote time and attention to their music lessons and practice. Better focus leads to better practice!
Time for Something New – Many of our students show interest in learning an additional instrument during the school year. Summer is the best time to try out a new instrument or two!
Continue Good Habits – When students take a full summer break from their instruments, it only means one thing – time to back track in the Fall! Everyone knows the saying, “If you don’t use it, you lose it.” This is true in all disciplines – including learning how to play an instrument. Instead of back tracking in the Fall, our students use their summer music lessons to continue good practice habits and keep making progress.
