Vivaldi Goes to Venice!

We are excited for our Italian debut in the beautiful city of Venice on June 23rd! Vivaldi, the famous Venetian composer and master of violin, wrote countless compositions during his time as a music educator at the Santa Maria della Pieta from 1703-1740. While rising to the rank of concertmaster, Vivaldi directed the children’s choir and all-girls orchestra through the church’s orphanage at the time, the Ospedale della Pieta. Established in the fourteenth century, the Ospedale now operates as the Instituto Provinciale Per L’Infanzia, a charitable institution that provides education and assists children and mothers in need. All proceeds from our recital will benefit this charity for children and women.

Summer Music Lessons - Reserve your prime time spot for the fall today!

  1. We LOVE our summer lessons. There are many advantages to taking summer music lessons, and here are just a few:
  2. Fun and Motivating – Summer is the perfect time to break from the routine and help students learn music of their choice whether it’s a song they heard on the radio or a challenging classical piece.
  3. Greater Focus– Without the worries of homework, sports games and practices, and other school-time activities, students can devote time and attention to their summer music lessons and practice. Better focus leads to better practice!
  4.  Time for Something New – Many of our students show interest in learning an additional instrument during the school year. Summer is the best time to try out a new instrument or two!
  5. No Backtracking – When students take a full summer break from their instruments, it only means one thing – time to backtrack in the Fall! Everyone knows that saying, “If you don’t use it, you lose it.” This is true in all disciplines including learning how to play an instrument. Our students use their summer music lessons to keep making progress.

Rice University | Spring Recital

Joseph Gardemal, Violin

Q: What instrument do you study at Vivaldi Music Academy?
A: I’ve been studying violin with Courtney Park.

Q: What do you enjoy most about Vivaldi Music Academy?
A: I enjoy how encouraging and positive all of the Vivaldi staff has been since I began taking lessons. I didn’t have an opportunity to have music lessons when I was younger, and so everything I’ve been learning has been completely new to me, and it has been very helpful to meet encouraging people.

Q: Who are your favorite musical artists?
A: Lately I have been listening to Tomaso Antonio Vitali. But I am also a fan of movie scores, and James Horner is one of my favorite movie score composers.

Q: Do you have advice for other students who may be interested in music?
A: I would just say that its a very good thing to be interested in, because its something that brings people together. No matter what culture you come from, some kind of music is in your heritage.

Q: What do you have planned for your Carnegie performance?
A: I’m going to play “The Lovers’ Waltz” by Jay Ungar and Molly Mason. I think it would be considered to be American folk music, and Ms. Park is going to help me play it as a duet. I’m also part of the strings ensemble performance.

Help Donate for Nepal!

On April 25, 2015, a devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck Nepal, claiming more than 2,200 lives — the exact toll is not yet known — and causing immense destruction in the capital city of Kathmandu and surrounding areas. At least 940,000 children are in immediate need of humanitarian assistance. Children in Nepal are in urgent need of your help — every dollar will be essential to helping the children who are suffering in this disaster. Vivaldi Music Academy will be collecting funds at the May 9th Student Spring Recital. 100% of collected funds will be donated directly to the Nepal Earthquake Emergency Relief Fund through UNICEF.

Planning for Summer!

We know many of you have plans for the summer and we hope you have tons of cool adventures! Since Vivaldi Music Academy is open year-round, it’s a good idea to start thinking about summer now. That way, it doesn’t take you by surprise later!
Q. “How do lessons work in the summer?”
A. The Academy is open year-round, and we do not close in the summer.

Q. “Do a lot of students quit in the summer?”

A. We actually grow in enrollment during the summer months! Some students withdraw, but we are getting a huge influx of new students for the summer and many continue into the fall.

Q. “How full is the Academy?”

A. As of today, we have 600 students and at capacity between the hours of 2:00 and 8:00 pm. These are prime-time spots!

Q. “If we withdraw for the summer, can we keep our spot for fall?”

A. Lessons are first come, first serve; so if you withdraw for the summer, we cannot guarantee that we will have a spot for you in the fall, as we will open the spot to new students. Do you want the same teacher, in the same time slot, in the fall? If the answer is YES, there are two ways to do this:

1. Take advantage of our summer make-up workshops:

We realize that some of you will go on vacation for a portion of the summer. By signing up for make-up workshops, you can make up your lessons and keep the same spot for fall.

It’s very easy to do: sign up for the desired classes on the make-up class registration sheet found at the Academy. If you don’t know the dates yet, you can sign up anytime. GET A HEAD START! You can make up summer lessons in advance or even when you return…there is no expiration date.

2. Sub lease your spot to a family member or friend

You can send a family member or friend in your place for the dates you will miss. Just let the office know who is coming in your place and when. Make sure that your friend reimburses you directly for the lessons.

If you are taking summer lessons and need a specific time for fall, please contact us ASAP and we will do our best to accommodate you. The time slot that you are currently taking is reserved for you; the best way to guarantee it in the fall is by using it for your lessons now!

If you LOVE your teacher and lesson time, keep your spot by using the summer make up classes or sub lease your spot.

Any questions? Please call our office at 713-858-9617. Thank you!
